Thanking Jesus

Colossians 1

1Thank You for Paul, Your apostle, O Christ Jesus, through the will of God and for Timothy our brother. 2Thank You for the saints and faithful brothers and sisters in You who lived at Colossae. Thank You for the grace and peace to me from God Your Father, and from You, Lord Jesus Christ.

3I give thanks to Your Father God and to You, my Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You that I can pray always for all of us. 4Thank You that others have heard of my faith in You, Christ Jesus. Thank You for the love which I have toward all the saints. 5Thank You for the hope which is laid up for me in the heavens, of which others have heard before in the word of the truth of the Good News.

6Thank You that Your truth has come to me. Thank You that it is in all the world and is bearing fruit and growing, as it does in me also. Thank You for the day that I heard and knew Your grace, O God, in truth. 7Thank You that I learned Your truth from others (like Epaphras) beloved fellow servants, who are Your faithful servants, O Christ, on my behalf, 8who also declared to me Your love in the Spirit.

9Thank You that I also, since the day I heard this, do not cease praying and making requests to You. I appreciate that I can be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

10Thank You that You help me to walk worthily of You, Lord, to please You in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of You, our God.

11Thank You for strengthening me with all power, according to the might of Your glory, for all endurance and perseverance with joy.

12I give thanks to Your Father, Who made me fit to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in light. 13Thank You for delivering me out of the power of darkness, and translated me into Your Kingdom, O beloved Son. 14Thank You that in You I have my redemption, the forgiveness of my sins.

15I am thankful that You are the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16I am grateful that by You all things are created, in the heavens and on the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. Thank You that all things have been created through You, and for You.

17Thank You that You are before all things, and in You all things are held together.

18Thank You for being the head of the body, the assembly. Thank You that You are the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things You might have the preeminence.

19I am so appreciative that all God’s fullness was pleased to dwell in You; 20and that through You all things are reconciled to Yourself, by You, whether things on the earth, or things in the heavens.  Thank You for having made peace through Your blood on Your cross.

21Although I was in past times alienated and a enemy in my mind in my evil works, 22thank You that now You have reconciled, in the body of Your flesh through death, to present me holy and without blemish and blameless before You.

23Thank You that I will continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the Good News which I heard. Thank You that the Good News is being proclaimed in all creation under heaven; of which I (like Paul) am made a servant.

24Now, I rejoice in my sufferings for the sake of others. Thank You for the chance to complete in my own sufferings something of the untold pains which You, O Christ, suffer on behalf of Your body, the Church.

25Thank You that I was made a servant by divine commission which was given me for the benefit of other Christians: that I (like Paul) might fully declare God’s word.

26Jesus, thank You for the mystery which has been hidden for ages and generations but now has been made clear to Your saints. 27I am thankful that God was pleased to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the

Gentiles, which is You, O Christ, in me, the hope of glory.  28Thank You for the privilege of proclaiming this, admonishing every person and teaching every person in all wisdom, that we may present every person fully mature in You, Christ Jesus. 29Thank You that I (like Paul) also labor, striving according to Your working. Thank You for working in me mightily.

Colossians 2

1Thank You for Paul’s desire to have the Colossians know how greatly that he struggled for them, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen his face in the flesh which includes me.

2Thank You that our hearts are being comforted and that we are being knit together in love. Thank You that we are gaining all the riches of assured understanding. Thank You that we may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of You, O Christ. 3I am thankful that in You are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.

4Now, I thank You that no one will delude me by saying anything with enticing words.

5Thank You that though Paul was absent in the flesh, yet he was with the Colossian Christians in the spirit, rejoicing and seeing their order, and the steadfastness of their faith in You, O Christ.

6Therefore, (like the Colossians) I also received You, Christ Jesus, my Lord, and I walk in You. 7Thank You that I am rooted and built up in You, and established in the faith, even as I was taught.  I am grateful that I abound in that faith in thanksgiving.

8Thank You that You have made me careful so that I will not let anyone rob me through his philosophy and vain deceit, which are after human tradition, after people’s ideas of the nature of the world, and disregards You, O Christ.

9It is so wonderful that all the fullness of the Godhead dwells in You bodily, 10and that in You I am made full. It is also wonderful that You are the head of all rule and authority.

11Thank You that in You I was also circumcised, not with a physical operation but with a spiritual one, in Your circumcision, O Christ, which has set me free from my evil desires.

12Thank You that I have been buried with You in baptism, in which I was also raised with You through faith in the working of God, Who miraculously raised You from the dead.

13Thank You that although I was dead through my trespasses and the uncircumcision of my flesh, You made me alive together with You. Thank You for forgiving me all my trespasses, 14 and wiping out the legal demands which were against me. Thank You for taking that bond away, nailing it to the cross.

15Thank You that You have stripped the principalities and the powers, made a public example of them openly, and triumphed over them.

16Thank You, therefore, that I do not have to let anyone judge me in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, 17which are a shadow of the things to come. Thank You that the solid reality is You, O Christ.

18Thank You that no one will rob me of my prize by insisting on self abasement and angle-worship, or dwelling on visions which are his own, or is vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19and not holding firmly to You, the Head. I appreciate that from You all the body is being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, and that it grows according to God’s laws of growth.

20Thank You that I died with You, O Christ, to the elemental spirits of the universe. Thank You that I am not part of this world wide system.  Thank You that I do not have to take the slightest notice of these purely human prohibitions as, 21“Do not handle, nor taste, nor touch” 22(all of which pass away after use), according to human precepts and doctrines.

23Although these things indeed appear like wisdom in selfimposed worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but I thank You for telling me that they are not of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.

Colossians 3

1Thank You that I was raised together with You, O Christ, and that I seek the things that are above, where You are seated on God’s right hand.

2Thank You that I have set my mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth. 3Thank You that I died, and that my life is hidden with You, O Christ, in God.

4 Christ, my life, thank You that when You are revealed, then I will also be revealed with You in glory.

5Thank You that I can put to death, therefore, my members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry; 6for which things’ sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience.

7Although I also once walked in those, when I lived in them; 8thank You that now I also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of my mouth.

9Thank You that I do not lie to others, seeing that I have put off the old man with his doings, 10and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator. 11Thank You that there can not be Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bondservant, or freeman. Thank You, Christ, that You are all that matters, for You live in us all.

12Therefore, as one of God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, thank You that I can put on a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13bearing with others, and forgiving others. Thank You that if I have a complaint against any; even as You, O Christ, forgave me, so I also forgive others. 14Above all these things, thank You that I walk in love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

15Thank You that the peace of God rules in my heart, to which also I was called in one body; and I am thankful. 16Thank You that Your word, O Christ, dwells in me richly. Thank You that in all wisdom I can teach and admonish others with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Thank You that I sing with grace in my heart to You, Lord.

17Whatever I do, in word or in deed, thank You that I can do all in Your name, Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through You.

18Thank You for helping wives to be in subjection to their own husbands, as is fitting in You, Lord.

19Thank You for helping husbands to love their own wives, and not to be bitter against them.

20Thank You for helping children to obey their own parents in all things, for this pleases You, Lord.

21Thank You for helping fathers to not provoke their own children, so that the children do not become discouraged. 2[1]Thank You for helping servants to obey in all things those who are their masters according to the flesh, not just when they are looking, as men pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing God.

23And I thank You that whatever I do, I work heartily, as for You, Lord, and not for people, 24knowing that from You I will receive the reward of the inheritance. Thank You that I serve You, Lord Christ.

25Since the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong that he has done, I am thankful that there is no partiality with You.

Colossians 4

1I am thankful that masters are required to give to their servants that which is just and equal, knowing that they also have You as their Master in heaven.

Thank You for others (like Paul) who are also in bonds; 4that they may reveal the mystery as they ought to speak.  5Thank You that I can walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, and redeem my time.

6Thank You that my speech is always with grace, seasoned with salt, that I may know how I ought to answer others.

7Thank You that all of Paul’s affairs were made known to the Colossian Christians by Tychicus, a beloved brother, a faithful servant, and a fellow bondservant with Paul in You, Lord.

8Thank You for Paul sending him to them for this very purpose, that he would know their circumstances and comfort their hearts. 9Thank You for Onesimus, the faithful and beloved brother, who was one of them. Thank You that they made known to them everything that was going on there.

10Thank You for Aristarchus, Paul’s fellow prisoner, who greeted the Colossians, and for Mark, the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom they received commandments, “if he comes to you, receive him”). 11Thank You for Jesus who is called Justus. Thank You for these, Paul’s only fellow workers for the Kingdom of God who were of the circumcision, men who had been a comfort to him.

12Thank You for Epaphras, who was one of the Colossians and Your servant, O Christ. Thank You that he saluted them and always strived for them in his prayers, that they might stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. 13Thank You that Paul testified about him, that he had great zeal for them, and for those in Laodicea, and for those in Hierapolis.

14Thank You for Luke, the beloved physician, and for Demas who greeted them. 15I appreciate the greetings to the brothers and sisters who were in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the assembly that was in his house.

16Thank You for this letter which was read among the Colossians, and also in the assembly of the Laodiceans, and by me. Thank You for the letter from Laodicea, although I do not have a copy of it.

17Thank You for Paul’s exhortation to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you fulfill it.”

18Thank You for Paul’s salutation with his own hand and his request to remember his bonds.

Thank You that grace is with me. Amen.
