Agreeing with God

2nd Timothy 1
Greetings
1Again, I so appreciate Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ through Your will, O God, according to the promise of the life which is in Christ Jesus, 2I am also grateful for Timothy, Paul’s beloved child. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the grace, mercy, and peace, which comes from You, God my Father, and from Christ Jesus my Lord.
Timothy
3I thank You, my God, whom I (like Paul) serve as my forefathers did, with a pure conscience. I agree how unceasing was Paul’s memory of Timothy in his petitions, night and day 4longing to see him, remembering his tears, that Paul might be filled with joy; 5having been reminded of the sincere faith that was in Timothy; which lived first in his grandmother Lois, and his mother Eunice, and, Paul was persuaded, in him also.
6For this cause, I remind myself that I should stir up Your gift, O God, which is in me through the laying on of other’s hands. 7For I agree that You did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
The Gospel
8Therefore, I agree to not be ashamed of Your testimony, Lord, nor of Paul Your prisoner; but to endure hardship for the Good News according to Your power. 9I agree that You saved me and called me with a holy calling, not according to my works, but according to Your own purpose and grace, which was given to me in Christ Jesus before times eternal, 10but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, Who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the Good News. 11For this, I agree that Paul was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12For this cause I also suffer these things as Paul did. Yet, I am not ashamed, for I know You Whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that You are able to guard that which I have committed to You against that day.
13I agree to hold the pattern of sound words which I have heard from people like Paul, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14That good thing which was committed to me, I agree to guard through the Holy Spirit Who dwells in me.
Friends
15This I know, that all who were in Asia turned away from Paul; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16I agree with Paul that You, Lord, grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed Paul, and was not ashamed of Paul’s chain, 17but when he was in Rome, he sought Paul diligently, and found him 18Lord, grant to him that he will find Your mercy in that day; and in how many things he served at Ephesus, You know very well.
2nd Timothy 2
A Good Soldier
1May I therefore, Father, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus? 2I agree to commit the things which I have heard from people like Paul among many witnesses to faithful people, who will be able to teach others also.
3I agree therefore, that I must endure hardship, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4I understand that no soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier. 5Also, I realize that if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he has competed by the rules. 6I believe that the farmers who labor must be the first to get a share of the crops. 7I do consider what Paul said, and may You, Lord, give me understanding in all things.
Suffering
8I remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to Paul’s Good News, 9in which he suffered hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But Your word is not chained. 10Therefore, I (like Paul) endure all things for the chosen ones’ sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11I agree that this saying is faithful:
“For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him.
12If we endure, we will also reign with Him. If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
13If we are faithless, He remains faithful.
He cannot deny Himself.”
14I agree to remind my Christian siblings of these things, charging them in Your sight, O Lord, that we do not argue about words, to no profit, to the subverting of others who hear.
A Good Workman
15I agree to give diligence to present myself approved by You, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.
False Teachers
16But I choose to shun empty chatter, for it will proceed further in ungodliness, 17and that word will consume like gangrene, of whom was Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18men who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.
19However, I agree that Your firm foundation stands, having this seal, “Lord, You know those who are Yours,” and, “Let every one who names Your name, O Lord, depart from unrighteousness.”
Vessels of Honor & Dishonor
20Now I understand that in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor. 21If I, therefore, purge myself from false teaching, I will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the Your use, my Master. I choose to be prepared for every good work.
Youthful Lusts
22I agree to flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on You, Lord, out of a pure heart. 23I agree to refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife. 24As Your servant, I believe that I must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all, able to teach, patient, 25in gentleness correcting those who oppose me: hoping that perhaps You may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth. 26I declare that they may recover themselves out of the devil’s snare, having been taken captive by him to his will.
2nd Timothy 3
The Last Days
1Thank You for telling me that in the last days, grievous times will come. 2For I understand that people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, 4traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers You, O God; 5holding a form of godliness, but having denied its power.
I agree to turn away from these, also. 6For some of these are people who creep into houses, and take captive gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8Even as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, I agree that these also oppose the truth; people corrupted in mind, who concerning the faith, are rejected.
9But I also agree that they will proceed no further. For their folly will be evident to all people, as Moses’ opponents also came to be. 10But I do choose to follow Paul’s teaching, in conduct, in purpose, in faith, in patience, in love, in steadfastness, 11in persecutions, and in sufferings.
Suffering
I accept that those things happened to Paul at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra and that he endured those persecutions. Out of them all You, Lord, delivered him. 12Yes, I agree that all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus (including me) will suffer persecution.
The Last Days
13But I understand that evil people and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14But I choose to remain in the things which I have learned and have been assured of, knowing that I have learned them from You.
Scriptures
15From infancy, I (like Timothy) have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make me wise for salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus. 16I affirm that every Scripture is breathed by You and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, 17that I, Your person, O God, may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2nd Timothy 4
Preaching the Good News
1I agree, therefore, before You, my God and the Lord Jesus Christ, Who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His Kingdom: 2to preach the word; to be urgent in season and out of season; to reprove, to rebuke, and to exhort, with all patience and teaching.
3For I understand that the time will come when many people will not listen to the sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts; 4and will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn aside to fables. 5But I choose to be sober in all things, suffer hardship, do the work of an evangelist, and fulfill my ministry.
Crown of Righteousness
6For I (like Paul) am already being offered, and the time of my departure will come. 7When it comes, I choose to say like Paul that I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith. 8From now on, there is stored up for me (as well as for Paul) the crown of righteousness, which You, Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved Your appearing.
Friends
9I agree that Paul wanted Timothy to be diligent to come to him soon, 10for Demas had left him, having loved this present world, and went to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. 11Only Luke was with him.
I understand that Paul wanted Timothy to take Mark, and bring him with him, for he was useful to Paul for service. 12But Paul had sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13I know that Paul wanted Timothy to bring the cloak that he left at Troas with Carpus when he came, and the books, especially the parchments.
14I understand that Alexander, the coppersmith, did much evil to Paul. Lord, I believe as Paul did, that You will repay him according to his works, 15of whom Paul wanted other Christians also to beware; for he greatly opposed Paul’s words.
Deliverance
16I understand that at Paul’s first defense, no one came to help him, but all left him. I also understand that he did not want that to be held against them. 17But Lord, You stood by him, and strengthened him, that through him the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the Gentiles (including me) might hear; and he was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
Benediction
18And Lord, I believe and affirm that You will deliver me (like Paul) from every evil work, and will preserve me for Your heavenly Kingdom; to You be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Greetings
19I understand that Paul asked Timothy to greet Prisca and Aquila, and the house of Onesiphorus. 20Erastus remained at Corinth, but Paul left Trophimus at Miletus sick.
21I understand that Paul also commanded Timothy to be diligent to come to him before winter. Paul said that Eubulus saluted Timothy, as did Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers.
22Thank You that the Lord Jesus Christ is with my spirit as He was with Timothy’s spirit. Thank You that Your grace is with me. Amen.
